Postdoctoral fellow in neuroscience (gene expression and regulation): Houston, TX, United States

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to study neuroscience in the areas of gene expression and regulation using Systems Biology approaches in the Department of Neurosurgery, and Center for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. Our laboratory is using systems-based approaches involving functional genomics and next-generation sequencing technologies such as RNA-Seq and ChIP-Seq as well as functional tests to unravel gene transcription and regulatory networks in the nervous system. Our current focus is on spinal cord injury and gliosis. We are pursuing basic and translational research in neural repair, neuroprotection and regenerative medicine.
Qualified candidates should:
• Have strong background and skills in culturing primary neural cells or stem cells, spinal cord injury, astrocyte biology, and siRNA/shRNA. Experiences in transgenic mice and protein purification are preferred.
• Demonstrated proficiency as evidenced by relevant publications in peer-reviewed journals and is interested in acquiring new skills.
The candidate will have the opportunity to pursue highly collaborative projects with significant translational impact, alongside with stem cell researchers and clinicians.
Our lab is located in the beautiful new facility of the Brown Foundation Institute of Molecular Medicine in the Texas Medical Center. Texas Medical Center is one of largest medical complex in the world and provides access to the more than 40 member institutions, including two medical schools, four schools of nursing and 13 renowned hospitals.
