PhD position in neuronal microRNA research : Marburg, Germany

The Schratt lab ( is inviting applications for a PhD position starting on September 1, 2015. The successful candidate will work on a project to identify novel non-coding RNA mechanisms regulating microRNA function in neuronal dendrites. This will include the biochemical identification of candidate molecules from dendritic preparations using RNA deep sequencing, state-of-the art single molecule in situ hybridization combined with confocal microscopy as well as functional characterization of candidate RNAs using gain-and loss-of-function approaches in primary hippocampal neurons. The contract will be initially for two years, with a possibility for extension.

What we offer
- enrollment in the interdisciplinary BPC graduate program (
- work in a young, international and well-funded research team
- excellent infrastructure with state-of-the art facilities for microscopy and deep sequencing

What we expect:
- Msc/Diploma in Neurobiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or related areas
- Background in basic techniques used in molecular biology and biochemistry
- knowledge in RNA biochemistry, advanced microscopy and/or electrophysiology is advantageous, but not a must
