The university is located in Lübeck, Northern Germany, an old, attractive coastal city in the vicinity to Hamburg and Scandinavia.
Research at the University of Lübeck is devoted to inflammation and autoimmunity. While the incidence of autoimmune diseases is increasing, therapeutic options are still limited. Therefore, we are committed to elucidate the molecular mechanisms driving the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases with the major goal to identify and evaluate novel therapeutic targets and strategies.
We are seeking a PhD student for a project focusing on the role of lipid mediators in autoimmune dermatoses. The project will include studies addressing the involvement of lipid mediators in mouse models of this disease class. Accordingly, the applicant will be required to extensively work with mice. Additionally, the project will integrate an array of diverse techniques from molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, and pharmacology, including lipid analyses, FACS, histologies, immunofluorescence, ELISA, qPCR, adoptive cell transfers, and the generation of bone marrow chimera.
The position will be in the lab of a young Principal Investigator (PI) strongly committed to drive the project and the applicant’s career development. The applicant will be embedded in a vibrant international, high-profile research environment with weekly joint lab meetings of the diverse labs of the department and its partner labs of the graduate Research Training Group 1727 (GRK 1727) “Modulation of Autoimmunity”, facilitating the vivid exchange of scientific ideas and the establishment of collaborations. The laboratory is technically well equipped.
Requirements for the applicants are
• A master or diploma degree in pharmacy, veterinary medicine, chemistry, biochemistry or biology with outstanding grades
• A strong interest in translational immunological research
• Practical experiences in the lab
• Fluency in English
• High motivation
Preference will be given to candidates experienced in experimental disease models and/or lipid biochemistry. Proficiency in German is welcomed but is explicitly no prerequisite. The University of Lübeck is an equal opportunities employer. Applications from female candidates are strongly encouraged. In case of compatible qualifications, preference will be given to people with disabilities.
Detailed information on the position is available from Dr. Christian Sadik (SadikLab-Applications@email.de). The salary offered is according to E13 1/2 positions (TV-L) for a maximum of 3 years.
Applications including CV, certificates, contact information of 2 previous mentors, and a brief statement on future goals should be sent preferably in PDF format to Dr. Christian Sadik (SadikLab-Applications@email.de)
