Postdoctoral Research Fellow (St. Louis, MO (USA))

Two postdoctoral research fellow positions are available in the Department of Anesthesiology, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis (USA). Studies in the laboratory are focused on determining the neurobiological mechanisms of pain associated with cancers, injury/inflammatory conditions and neuropathies. These studies utilize rodent pathological models of pain; diverse behavioral assessment of pain, motor activity, and gait in rodents; multimodal live animal imaging; tissue histology; electrophysiology, functional ion and redox state imaging, biochemistry, cell/molecular biology using cultured rodent and human sensory neurons; and mouse genetic approaches.

Position requirements:
1. Highly self-motivated individual with a fresh Ph.D. or M.D.-Ph.D. degree (or nearing degree completion in the next couple of months) in neuroscience or physiology or pharmacology with a strong track record of peer-reviewed publications.
2. Solid background/training and expertise in electrophysiology on neurons in culture and/or slices/single fiber recordings.
3. Creative thinking skills and a strong background in basic physiology/pharmacology, neuroscience, ion channel and receptor signaling.
4. Affinity for performing investigations in rodents.
5. Ability to work collaboratively with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
6. High proficiency in the English language (read, write, and speak).

The laboratory is located in the Washington University Medical Center campus, situated in St. Louis’ urban corridor, the “Central West End† district. St. Louis also offers an affordable cosmopolitan living for young families, and is voted as one of the best metropolitan places to live in the United States.
