SCIENCE-JOBS-DE

PhD positions in Biochemistry / Structural Biology / Computational Modeling (Bayreuth)

Two PhD positions (3 years, 65% TvL 13) to be filled as soon as possible are available at the Department of Biochemistry, Uni Bayreuth, to work on the design of protein folds and functions.

Our research group studies sequence-structure-function relationships with the goal of rationally designing robust and functional proteins. On the one hand we study the evolution of protein folds to learn about the basis of protein stability. On the other hand we use computational design methods to build proteins with new functionalities. Subsequently we test our models in the lab.

Current projects range from de novo protein design via the changing of ligand binding specificities to the construction of biosensors. We combine computational approaches with protein biochemistry and structural biology. The department offers equipment for biophysical characterization via CD, fluorescence, MST and ITC technologies, as well as x-ray crystallography. We further have access to protein NMR and compute clusters through the campus infrastructure.

We are looking for highly motivated students with experience in one of the mentioned techniques and who are enthusiastic about working in a multidisciplinary and international team.

Applications including a letter of motivation, CV and names & contact of two references should be send to Birte HÃļcker preferably by email as a single pdf.
