Postdoctoral position in Metabolic Modelling

to support its research within the innovation alliance ZeroCarbon Footprint. This project, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), focuses on the conversion of industrial waste streams to functional biomass and valuable products. The research scientist will be involved in the projects Bioplastics and DeiCE+, which aim at the development of cell factories for the efficient conversion of alternative carbon sources into valuable products.
Responsibilities and tasks
• Metabolic modeling for the design of optimal pathways for target product synthesis from CO2
• Computational design of metabolic engineering strategies for strain optimization
• Design of 13C-labeling experiments for metabolic flux analysis (MFA)
• Metabolic flux calculation from (isotopically non-stationary) 13C-labeling data (INST-MFA)
• Publication and presentation of research results

The candidate will work in close collaboration with two experimental PostDocs, developing the analytical tools for 13C-MFA and implementing the computationally derived strain optimization strategies.

Qualifications
Candidates should hold a PhD in chemical engineering / biotechnology / bioinformatics or similar field. The applicant should have previous experience in constraint-based metabolic modeling and/or 13C-based metabolic flux analysis.

Our offer
Funding for the position is available till June 2016 with a possible extension for three years after positive evaluation of the project. Remuneration is based on the TV-L statutory salary scale (TV-L 13) and its associated public sector benefits.
