Research on clinically relevant RNA-processing alterations for personalized cancer medicine : Barcelona, Spain

We seek motivated candidates to apply for an advanced research position at the Research Programme on Biomedical Informatics (UPF) in the competitive call “TECNIOSPRING” co-funded by the EU and the Catalan Government (http://www.catalonia.com/en/our-services/rdtechinnovation/tecniospring/index.jsp)

Candidates should have a PhD + 4 years of research experience, or have 8 years of research experience. Additionally, they should have at least 1 year of experience in applied research and/or technology transfer. The gross salary is 56000 Eur/year with 8640 Eur/year for research expenses and 960 Eur/year of mobility allowance. Additionally, the candidate should not have worked in Spain for more than 12 months during the two years prior to the application.

We are interested in candidates to work on the development of a computational platform to characterize and detect RNA-processing alterations from RNA sequencing that are clinically relevant for personalized cancer medicine. Advances in sequencing technologies make possible to routinely obtain information about the RNAcontent in fresh or stored tumor samples. This represents an opportunity to do systematic studies of RNA-processing alterations to uncover new cancer molecular targets. However, this raises important challenges about how to process, integrate and interpret this data efficiently to obtain relevant clinical information. In this project, we propose to tackle these challenges by developing a computational platform for the analysis and clinical interpretation of RNA-processing alterations from an individual tumor sample for the application in personalized cancer medicine.

The group

Eyras’ group (http://regulatorygenomics.upf.edu/) is located in the PRBB (Biomedical Research Park of Barcelona), which hosts more than 1000 researchers working in biology and medical research, with more than 100 of them working in computational genomics. This offers a unique and stimulating environment to thrive scientifically.

During the last years, Eyras' group has focused on the development of analysis tools for high- throughput sequencing data (Althammer et al. 2011, Sebestyén et al. 2014, Alamancos et al. 2014), which has allowed him to make important contributions in the understanding of gene regulation through multiple collaborations. Recently, Eyras’ group has performed one of the first exhaustive analyses of splicing alterations in multiple cancer types (Sebestyen et al. 2014). Current focus of Eyras’ research group is to study the role of RNAprocessing alterations in cancer.

How to apply:

Interested applicants should submit a motivation letter describing previous research experience, a CV and contact information for at least two referees to Eduardo Eyras (eduardo.eyras@upf.edu)….

Don't forget to mention Naturejobs when applying.
