SCIENCE-JOBS-DE

PhD Student, Immunology, Allergology, Bonn, Germany (Bonn)

We are interested in the molecular mechanisms underlying atopic diseases, e g. atopic dermatitis (AD). Our research aims to unravel functional defects of professional antigen-presenting cells (APC), especially Langerhans cells (LC), as potential inducers of skin inflammation and the pathology of AD.
Within the current project, the molecular mechanisms underlying phenotypic and functional abnormalities of LC from AD patients compared to LC isolated from skin of healthy donors will be studied. The focus of the research project will be on expression and function of Toll-like receptors and the high-affinity receptor for IgE, FceRI, on ex vivo isolated LC from AD patients. Additionally primary APC/LC generated from hematopoietic stem cells from cord blood or differentiated from monocytes isolated from buffy coat or fresh blood will serve as models for functional studies.

Requirements:
• excellent graduates in the fields of medical biology, biology, biochemistry, biotechnology (Master or equivalent)
• proven interest in one or more of the above indicated research fields
• experienced in working with molecular biological, biochemical, and immunological methods
• disposed to work with human material such as blood and skin samples
• very good written and spoken English skills
The duration of the PhD position will be up to three years and is available immediately. The salary is in accordance with the German public service salary scale (TV L E 13, 65%).
