Cell-matrix interactions and the cytoskeleton in stem cell fate regulation

The Max Planck Research Group headed by Dr. Sara Wickström is looking for PhD students (m/f)

The successful candidate will join a young and dynamic research team in the analysis of the roles of cell-matrix interactions and adhesion signaling in skin homeostasis and ageing. We employ a wide range of techniques, including mouse genetics, cell biology, live cell imaging, and mass spectrometry to study how cell-matrix signaling and the mechanical forces generated by the cytoskeleton regulate stem cell fate decisions, and the role of these processes in ageing and age-related diseases such as cancer.

The applicant is required to hold a masters degree/diploma in biology, biochemistry or a related field, as well as strong written and oral communication skills. The working language is of the lab is English; knowledge of the German language is not necessary. Experience in one of the following methodologies: mouse genetics, cell biology, live cell imaging is an advantage.

The Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing was founded in 2008 for the purpose of understanding fundamental mechanisms of healthy ageing. It is part of a broad network of research institutions in the Cologne-Bonn area dedicated to research on ageing and age-related disease, constituting a vibrant and collaborative environment for research. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology and excellent core facilities, to which the successful candidate would have access, the institute provides outstanding research opportunities for its scientists. The Institute hosts employees from 29 nations, and will grow to 350 members in the new building.
The Max Planck Society is committed to employ more disabled individuals and especially encourages them to apply.
The Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and especially encourages them to apply.

To apply, send a pdf-file containing a one-page letter with a personal statement outlining your research interests and relevant work experience, your CV and bibliography, contact information for 2-3 references to wickstroem@age.mpg.de.

Informal inquiries are very welcome and should be sent to Wickstroem@age.mpg.de.
