SCIENCE-JOBS-DE

PhD project on bioimage and data analysis of intracellular dynamic processes (Rotterdam, the Netherlands)

Job description: The study of dynamic biological processes is of fundamental importance to understand and ultimately combat many diseases. Advanced microscopic imaging and computer vision
technologies enable biologists to visualize and track these processes in living cells with unprecedented high resolution and sensitivity. This generally yields very large amounts of tracking data that cannot be analyzed by human observers. There is now an urgent need for powerful computational and statistical methods to fully exploit such data by quantitatively analyzing large numbers of parameters and detecting potential interrelations between them.
The aim of this project is to develop new image and data analysis methods for this purpose. In collaboration with cell biologists we will also validate the methods for the study of specific intracellular processes.

Qualifications and skills: Candidates must have an MSc degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, physics, electrical engineering, or a related field. Strong theoretical skills as well
as computer programming skills (Java and/or C++) are required. Experience with biomedical image analysis and/or bioinformatics is an advantage.

Terms of employment: As a PhD student you will get a temporary position of four years (full-time). The terms of employment are in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement for University
Medical Centers (CAO UMC) in the Netherlands.

Application: If you are interested, please email the following to me directly (h.meijering@erasmusmc.nl): A curriculum vitae, a motivation for applying, including a description of research interests, a list of followed courses with grades and certificates, a list of publications and copies of up to three publications (in English) of which you are the main author, for example your MSc thesis.
