Postdoctoral Researcher - Tumor Metabolism : Leuven, Belgium

VIB is a non-profit research institute in life sciences. About 1,400 scientists conduct strategic basic research on the molecular mechanisms that are responsible for the functioning of the human body, plants, and microorganisms. Through a close partnership with four Flemish universities − UGent, KU Leuven, University of Antwerp, and Vrije Universiteit Brussel − and a solid funding program, VIB unites the forces of 74 research groups in a single institute. The goal of the research is to extend the boundaries of our knowledge of life. Through its technology transfer activities, VIB translates research results into products for the benefit of consumers and patients and contributes to new economic activity. VIB develops and disseminates a wide range of scientifically substantiated information about all aspects of biotechnology. More information: www.vib.be

Description
Are you interested to work at the crossroad between academia and industry in the exciting field of cancer metabolism?

Cancer metabolism is one of the emerging hot topics in cancer research, aiming to elucidate the metabolic needs of cancer cells to identify new therapies. One of the most powerful techniques elucidate such metabolic needs is metabolomics and fluxomics, two technologies that are only available in a few labs worldwide. The lab of Sarah-Maria Fendt is applying both techniques to investigate cancer metabolism and its therapeutic potential. For our drug discovery research we collaborate with Bayer Health Care, one of the leading pharmaceutical companies.

You will do your research:
- on metabolic drug targets
- in collaboration with Bayer Health Care
- performing metabolomics and fluxomics with state-of‐the‐art equipment (LC/GC‐MS)
- integrating experimental data with computational modeling
- on a medical relevant topic

Profile
- you have a PhD in biochemistry, biotechnology, systems biology, life sciences, bio- or chemical engineering
- you have a strong expertise in mass spectrometry
- you have experience with mammalian cell culture and molecular biology techniques
- you have worked on metabolism during your PhD
- you think outside the box
- you like to take the lead on challenging projects

We offer
- an applied postdoc position providing research experience in industry and academia
- a young and highly dynamic team working on multidisciplinary projects
- an international environment
- international collaborations and networks
