SCIENCE-JOBS-DE

Ph.D. position - neuroscientist, biophysicist, molecularbiologist, biologist (Bonn)

The center of advanced european studies and research (caesar) is an Institute of the Max Planck Society dedicated to the Neurosciences, Cell Biology, and Biophysics.

Voltage-gated ion channels are essential for important physiological processes, including action potential generation and propagation, neurotransmitter release, and muscle contrac-tion. We study the molecular mechanisms that control voltage sensing and gating of these channels. The Department of Molecular Sensory Systems offers

2 Ph.D. positions

(neuroscientist, biophysicist, molecularbiologist or biologist)

on "Mechanisms of voltage- and pH-gating in ion channels"

The student will use modern techniques, ranging from electrophysiological methods like patch-clamp recordings, voltage- and patch-clamp fluorometry measurements, molecular biology and biochemical assays. The project will be under the supervision of Dr. T. K. Berger.

You will work in a young and dynamic environment, embedded in the scientific community of the Max Planck Society and the universities of Bonn and Cologne. Caesar is part of a cluster for neurosciences in the Bonn-Cologne region, comprising the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases and two Max Planck Institutes. The Institute hosts the International Max Planck Research School for Brain & Behavior and is involved in the Bonn International Graduate School of Neuroscience.

Caesar offers a family friendly and international atmosphere, and supports individual devel-opment with a set of trainings and seminars. Caesar provides a very modern infrastructure in an attractive building near the river Rhine.

Highly qualified and motivated candidates all over the world that hold excellent diploma or master degrees are invited to submit their application.
