The Position
Roche is committed to invest into innovative healthcare solutions in disorders of the central nervous system. As a Postdoctoral Fellow you will investigate the disease mechanism underlying genetically defined, GPCR-linked neuropsychiatric disorders in close interaction with our bioinformatics-, psychopharmacology- and genetics groups. In order to expand and strengthen our preclinical research efforts in psychiatric diseases we are looking for a dedicated PhD level scientist to join our Discovery Neuroscience department. In this position you will:

• study effects of acute and chronic drug treatment in genetically defined disease models applying behavioral assessments, biochemical- and histological techniques, and genetics
• investigate the pharmacological modulation of signaling pathways underlying GPCR-linked neuropsychiatric disorders using cell culture- and ex vivo material
• contribute to the characterization of pharmacological research tools and drug candidates
• have access to a wide array of technologies, and profit from powerful pharmacological tools (known and novel) and transgenic animal models work with internal and external collaborators
• be expected to publish the results arising from this project in high quality peer-reviewed journals
• have a unique opportunity to gain first-hand insights into the drug discovery process in one of the leading pharmaceutical companies

This is a 2-year position initially with the possibility of extension. The location is in Basel, Switzerland.

We seek a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist to join a research project associated to one of our active drug development programs. You have:

• a PhD in biology or biochemistry and a strong neuroscience background
• experience in working with rodents (mice and rats); expertise in the area of behavioral pharmacology is a plus
• hands-on expertise with techniques in the areas of cell- and molecular biology, biochemistry, and histology
• experience with standard assay formats in biochemical pharmacology such as radioligand binding and second messenger assays are of advantage
• excellent English verbal and written communication skills
• the ability to work independently and as part of a multi-skilled international team, with proven commitment to productivity, high level of creativity and analytical thinking
