Our Goal:

 Recently we characterized the binding profile of Myc (Walz et al., Nature 2014; Vo*, Wolf* et al, Cancer Cell 2016) and its binding partner Miz1 (Wolf et al, Nature Communications 2013) in several systems. Overall, we could identify new mechanisms, which can explain Myc´s important role in tumorigenesis (Wolf et al, Trends in Cell biology, 2015). In the future we want to analyze how Myc communicates with the RNA polymerases to regulate transcription. The ultimate goal is the development of strategies how Myc´s function in tumors can be blocked.

Requirements:
Motivated applicants should have a strong background in molecular biology and biochemistry and should have excellent lab skills. An interest in bioinformatics is needed, as sophisticated analyses are part of the project, however previous knowledge is not necessary. Applications from severely handicapped persons with basically similar qualification will be given priority. Salary will be according to TV-L (E13).

We offer:
The successful candidate will be part of a DFG-Emmy Noether research group (Dr. Elmar Wolf) located within the institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology headed by Prof. Martin Eilers. This constellation provides both, tight supervision in a well-thought-out project and the scientific background of one of the world-leading institutes working on Myc. The institute provides excellent equipment allowing state-of-the-art experiments and the candidate will learn techniques, which are highly beneficial for her or his later carrier in academia or industry. The PhD-position will be embedded in the graduate school of life science, ensuring an efficient and speedy PhD process.
