PhD position in cancer research (Vienna, Austria)

A PhD student position is available at the Institute for Cancer Research of the Medical University in Vienna, to study the molecular mechanisms involved in pancreatic cancer progression and metastasis.

Pancreatic cancer cells are characterized by a strong tendency to evade and disseminate early during tumorigenesis, and most patients already present with distal metastases at the time of diagnosis. Previous data from the group showed a role for the transcription factor GATA6 in the maintenance of cell differentiation in pancreatic cancer. The candidate will investigate further in detail the underlying molecular mechanisms, with a combination of in vivo and in vitro approaches.
We are looking for a talented and motivated PhD student to carry out this project, under the direct supervision of the principal investigator.

Applicants should hold a Master Degree or equivalent academic degree that is acceptable for the admission as a PhD student at the Medical University of Vienna.
Experience with the basic techniques used in molecular biology, in handling laboratory animals, and in the use of basic computer software is desirable but not required.
Fluent English is a must. German is a plus, but not required.

We offer a competitive salary, based on FWF scale, a vibrant working environment, and a highly dedicated supervision.

The position is fully funded for three years.
Starting date: as soon as possible.

All applications should be sent to Dr. Paola Martinelli: paola.martinelli@meduniwien.ac.at, and contain a CV plus name and contact of two references.
