Postdoctoral Position in Biomedical Engineering: Sioux Falls, SD, United States

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Zhongkui Hong, Assistant professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of South Dakota in Sioux Falls. Current researches in our lab focus on (1) Biomechanics in vascular disease, (2) Biomechanics in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. (3) Vascular tissue engineering, (4) Biomedical signal processing. A wide range of techniques are being used in these projects including Cellular biomechanics testing with Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), live cell imaging with Confocal Microscopy and AFM, Culture of primary Vascular smooth muscle cell, Cell spreading and migration on 2d gel and 3d gel substrate, Biomedical image and signal processing with Matlab, Vessel ring tissue reconstitution, Physiological and mechanical functions testing on the blood vessel and reconstituted ring tissue with DMT Myograph, High efficiency cell transfection with Electroporation, etc. The position also offers excellent opportunities for presentations in scientific conference, publications in peer reviewed journal, involvement in research grant preparation, collaborations with other researchers and career development in a stimulating working environment.

Highly motivated individuals with a strong background and interest in biomechanics and functional tissue engineering are encouraged to apply. Qualified candidate is expected to have a recent Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. with experiences in two or more of the following topics: Biomedical engineering, Biophysics, Molecular biology, Vascular physiology, Tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, and Adult stem cell. The preferred lab skills include small animal handling (rat and mice), cell isolation from dissected tissue, cell culture, and Myograph for vascular tissue function. Computer programming with Matlab, Igor, or Language R for data analysis and image processing are additional desirable skills.
