PhD scholarship in Intestine Modelling for Drug Delivery Studies: 2800 Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark

DTU Nanotech conducts cross-disciplinary research where micro- and nanotechnology is applied to a wide range of scientific disciplines as well as applications. The work will be carried out in close collaboration with different national and international research groups, and within the framework of the recently granted Center of Excellence – IDUN (www.IDUN.dtu.dk).

Responsibilities and tasks
The IDUN project located at DTU Nanotech wishes to employ a PhD student for 3 years to work in a highly interdisciplinary project focusing on developing biological systems to study oral drug delivery.

Activities involve: (i) design and development of intestinal two or three compartment models; (ii) characterization of the models in terms of biological properties; (iii) development of fluorescent based molecular detection systems for drug transport studies. The intestine model will be based on 3D printer scaffolds, hydrogel and perfusion. The engineering parts will be in collaboration with other researchers at the Centre.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate holds a master’s degree (or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to master’s degree) in bio- or nanotechnology, pharmacology, biochemistry, biology or similar. A master’s project or previous work experience regarding cell culture, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, plasmid construction and propagation, protein expression and gene expression profiling will be beneficial.

The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU. Salary and appointment terms
The salary and appointment terms are consistent with the current rules for PhD degree students. The period of employment is 3 years.

Main workplace will be DTU Lyngby Campus, but the candidate is also expected to have an external research stay.
