PhD student in systems biology/systems pharmacology/bioinformatics (m/f) : Luxembourg, Luxembourg

The University of Luxembourg has the following vacancy in the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB, http://wwwen.uni.lu/lcsb).

The LCSB is accelerating biomedical research by closing the link between systems biology and medical research. Collaboration between biologists, medical doctors, computer scientists, physicists and mathematicians is offering new insights in complex systems like cells, organs, and organisms. These insights are essential for understanding principal mechanisms of disease pathogenesis and for developing new tools in diagnostics and therapy.

The Molecular Systems Physiology group (http://thielelab.eu) was recently established at the LCSB. Its research focuses on using and developing state-of-art computational approaches to investigate the links between diet and human health.

· Fixed- term 14 months initial contract, extendable to 36 months,
· full-time (40 hours/week)

Tasks/Mission:
· Integration and analysis of “omics” data sets, e.g. metabolomic data, in the context of the human metabolic model.
· Computational modeling of human metabolism.
· Interpretation of the computational modeling results with respect to metabolic disease states.
· The project will thus include key technologies used in computational systems biology and bioinformatics.
· Assistance in PhD student supervision.
· Writing of grant applications, project reports, and scientific papers.
· Close collaboration and knowledge exchange with national and international collaborators.

Your profile
· Master´s degree (or equivalent) in (medical) Biochemistry, (Molecular) Biology, or related areas.
· Strong interest in human biology and computational modeling.
· Basic skills in programming and statistical data analysis are of advantage.
· Excellent communication skills.
· Excellent working knowledge of English.
