Ph.D. Position in Targeted Nanomedicines for Atherosclerosis Therapy: 2800 Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark

DTU Nanotech conducts research, education and innovation within micro- and nanotechnologies across a wide range of scientific disciplines consisting of: materials fabrication, optics, chemistry, nanomedicine and biotechnology.

Research within the Bioinspired Nanomaterials group at DTU Nanotech involves the use of programmable nanochemistry and utilization of innate biologically active functionalities to create catalytic nanomedicines for disease therapy. Our research is highly interdisciplinary, spanning chemical synthesis, materials science and in vitro and in vivo biology.

Responsibilities and tasks
A PhD position is available within the Bioinspired Nanomaterials group for the investigation of targeted anti-inflammatory and catalytic nanomedicines for atherosclerosis therapy. In this multidisciplinary project a series of polymeric nanoparticles with novel targeting ligands specific to atherosclerotic plaque antigens will be developed, characterized and investigated both in vitro and in vivo for their therapeutic efficacy. The project will involve nanoparticle synthesis, nanoparticle formulation, use of a variety of analytical techniques, bioassays, cell culture experiments and in vivo biology. The position is funded by the Lundbeck Foundation and led by Dr. Nazila Kamaly.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate should hold Master level degrees in either bioorganic/medicinal chemistry, polymer chemistry, chemical biology, chemical engineering, pharmaceutical science, biomedical sciences, bioengineering or a related field. The applicant should have a strong academic record, be fluent in English, with excellent communication skills, and interested in working within a collaborative and cross-disciplinary environment. They should strive towards developing scientific skills at the highest level, be ambitious and hard working. Only outstanding and competitive candidates with a clear potential to excel will be considered.

Approval and Enrolment
