Postdoctoral Research Scientist (Signalling, Protein Kinases and Proteostasis) : Cambridge, United Kingdom

Postdoctoral Research Scientist (Signalling, Protein Kinases and Proteostasis)
Starting salary is £30,751 per annum to £33,141per annum

(depending on experience)

The Babraham Institute is a charity, which is world renowned for its research in life sciences to enhance lives and improve wellbeing.

We are seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join the Cook Group in the Signalling Programme.

p62 is a multi-functional signalling scaffold protein that orchestrates cellular responses to stresses such as protein aggregation, nutrient starvation and oxidants/electrophiles. It is implicated in the control of normal ageing and in age-related disease such as cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. p62 is regulated by multi-site phosphorylation within several key functional domains. We have recently identified two protein kinases that can phosphorylate distinct sites in p62; this project will investigate the role of these kinases in regulating key p62 functions.

The post holder will join a well-resourced and motivated team studying protein kinase signalling and the control cell fate. They will help to lead a project aimed at understanding how phosphorylation of p62/SQSTM1 coordinates its functions in anti-oxidant signalling, proteostasis and autophagy.

The successful candidate must have a PhD in Cell Biology or Biochemistry/Molecular Biology combined with a strong understanding of protein kinases, phosphorylation and signalling. Experience in confocal microscopy/imaging and cell culture are essential. Applicants should have solid experience in molecular biology and use of protein kinase inhibitors would be highly desirable.

Informal enquiries can be made to Dr Simon Cook (simon.cook@babraham.ac.uk).

Funding for this position is available for three years in the first instance.
