We have recently shown that liver dysfunction in sepsis depends on the signaling activity of PI3Kgamma as KO mice are protected against excretory failure. However, PI3Kgamma plays a crucial role in the migration of phagocytes from the bloodstream to sites of infection, a hallmark of the host response. The aim of this project is to unravel the role of PI3Kgamma in liver as opposed to immune cells to develop strategies to prevent the sepsis induced liver dysfunction without a concomitant immune defect.
