A postdoctoral research associate position is available in Dr. Therese Andersson’s group in the department of Molecular Biosciences Wenner-Gren Institute, Stockholm University, to investigate the function and mechansims of action of non-protein coding RNAs (ncRNAs) in neural cell specification and neurodegeneration. Applications are invited from enthusiastic and ambitious individuals with a strong interest in studying the functions of ncRNAs in brain development and disease. This project will involve stem cell and primary cell culture, genetic modifications of human and mouse stem cells, RNA-seq, RNA-IP and various biochemical methods to identify and understand the role and mechanistic function of candidate ncRNAs.

Applicants will have a PhD in molecular biology, RNA biology, (developmental) neurobiology, stem cell biology or other related life science fields. Scientists with experience in RNA biology that would like to apply their expertise to address important questions in developmental neurobiology and neurodegeneration are particularly welcome to apply. Neurobiologists with an interest in developing skills in RNA and stem cell biology are also encourage to apply. Experience in cell culture, especially mouse or human stem cell culture is not required but will be advantageous.

Eligibility: The applicant must have a PhD degree from outside Sweden and must be within 5 years of their degree.

The position will be supported by The Wenner-Gren foundations and follow EMBO-guidelines. The position is available immediately, for a period of 2 years. Closing date for applications is 15th July 2013 or when the position is filled.
