4 Year Fixed Term Appointment (with a possibility of extension)

Research Focus: Drug development (including anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant drugs) for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.

The School of Medicine pursues excellence in biomedical education and research.  Our goal is to teach students in a contemporary, research-intensive environment that is highly relevant to their development as physicians and researchers, as well as to foster the next generations of PhD research scientists.

The Pharmacology Unit is a research-intensive discipline located in the School of Medicine at the Campbelltown campus of the University of Western Sydney.  Current areas of research are pathogenesis, biomarkers and drug development (including anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant drugs) for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.

Candidates should have completed a PhD in Neuroscience, Pharmacology, Biochemistry or Molecular Biology, preferably in the area of neurodegenerative diseases (particularly Alzheimer’s disease), with a demonstrated track record of publications and grant applications.

Applicants should possess experience in one or more of the following areas: brain cell culture (e.g. organotypic slices, primary cells, neuronal stem cells), molecular biology techniques (e.g. shRNA/siRNA, retroviral vectors, qPCR, microarrays), bioanalytical methods (e.g. HPLC, GC, MS), and/or rodent behaviour.

This position provides the opportunity to be part of an exciting research team with the potential to develop skills in a wide variety of related fields.  The successful candidate would be required to liaise with other teams, nationally and internationally, engaged in collaborations with the Professor of Pharmacology.

The position is initially offered as a full time 4 year fixed term appointment, with the potential for extension.

Remuneration Package: Higher Education Worker Level 6 $80,152 to $85,943 p.a. (comprising Salary $67,729 to $72,623 p.a., 17 % Superannuation and Leave Loading).
