PhD student in molecular neuroscience/ molecular cell biology

The research group of Prof. V. Haucke (Dept. of. Molecular Pharmacology & Cell Biology) at the Leibniz-Institut für Molekulare Pharmakologie (FMP) is seeking a

PhD student in molecular neuroscience/ molecular cell biology

starting 1 February 2013 (or later) for an initial period of two years that can be extended further. The group studies the mechanisms of endocytic and endosomal membrane dynamics with a focus on synaptic vesicle cycling in neurons using an integrated approach that combines optical and physiological analysis with cell biological, biochemical and behavioral studies in transgenic mice (selected recent publications: von Kleist et al (2011) Cell 146:471-484; Koo et al (2011) PNAS 108:13540-13545; Haucke et al (2011) Nat Rev Neurosci 12:127-138; Posor et al (2013) Nature 499:233-237; Kononenko et al., (2013) PNAS 110: E526–E535).

The project is focussed on the application of molecular biological, biochemical, and imaging techniques (optical probes including pHluorins, confocal imaging, TIRF microscopy etc.) to study presynaptic membrane turnover in primary neurons or slice preparations.
