Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Structural Biology

Grade 7: £29,541- £36,298p.a. with a discretionary range to £39,649p.a.

Applications are invited for a highly-motivated Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join Dr Bowden’s group within Division of Structural Biology (STRUBI). The group incorporates multidisciplinary molecular and structural approaches to characterize emerging zoonotic RNA viruses. Specifically, they aim to gain insights into the molecular specificity which underlies viral attachment into human host cells. You will join a very lively and motivated international and interdisciplinary group of scientists. 
You will have experience in protein expression and biochemistry or researchers with outstanding backgrounds in virology and/or immunology that have a strong commitment to gaining expertise in structural biology. You will have scope within the group to tailor specific projects to your particular interests and test hypotheses and analyse scientific data from a variety of sources. You will be responsible for managing the day to day running of a research project and will contribute in assisting junior researchers in their work.
You will have PhD/DPhil in a relevant subject and substantial research experience in either protein expression or purification, preferably including experience in tissue culture or protein crystallization and X-ray crystallography. It is essential you are able to work both as part of a team and independently, with the ability to deliver results to the required standard and schedule. You will have excellent communication skills, both written and oral and be highly organised, and able, to prioritise your own work with minimal supervision. 
The position is funded by the Medical Research Council and is fixed-term for 2 years in the first instance.
