MSc/PhD studentships in Cell Biology : Edmonton, Canada

Multiple positions are available in the MSc/PhD research program of the Department of Cell Biology at the University of Alberta starting September 2014. The University of Alberta is the 5th largest university in Canada with world-class biomedical research labs. Edmonton is a vibrant, young city that lies in close proximity to the Rocky Mountains, offering excellent opportunities for sports enthusiasts.

Our Department is considered as one of the finest Cell Biology training environments in North America and is one of the best funded of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta. The University of Alberta Cell Biology Department graduate program is relatively small with about 40 students, but the vast majority of these students move on to the PhD program and a significant portion of these continue on to academic faculty positions later on. In addition to this success, the majority of PhD graduates hold awards from various national funding agencies. Successful applicants will be working full time on a research project, and attend the weekly Department seminar series. More details on the directions of research are available in our publications and on our website http://www.cellbiology.ualberta.ca/en/FacultyMembers.aspx

Our program is open to students from competitive Life Sciences undergraduate schools. In addition, students are expected to have previous research experience, ideally at a North American or European University. Minimal requirements and required materials for the application process are outlined in our manual athttp://www.cellbiology.ualberta.ca/~/media/cellbio/Documents/GraduateManualNov2013.pdf

Consistent with our international student body, outstanding applicants from abroad will be considered, but must have excellent English knowledge both spoken and written (TOEFL/GRE scores as stated in our manual). Applications not fulfilling these conditions will be rejected without comment.

Please address applications by March 15th 2014 for pre-screening to the Graduate Student Coordinator by replying to this advertisement.
