SCIENCE-JOBS-DE

Research Associate / Research Fellow post available in Bioinformatics / Statistical Genetics (Guy's Campus, London)

Research Associate / Research Fellow post available in Bioinformatics / Statistical Genetics
King’s College London

This is a re-advertisement of a post previously advertised at Research Associate (Grade 6) level only.   The post has now been extended to either Research Associate or Research Fellow (Grade 6-7) levels.  Please note the post is only available to applicants from the EU (including UK, of course).

The post-holder will spearhead computational and statistical analyses of expression quantitative trait locus (eQTL) and allele-specific expression (ASE) signals in a large and ongoing study of the genetic regulation of multiple human brain tissues.  Analyses will combine genomewide SNP data with whole-transcriptome RNA-seq data. Development of novel statistical genetic methods relevant to on-going studies will be strongly encouraged.

There are many computational and statistical challenges to be addressed. Correlations in expression levels among tissues and genes will need to be adequately accounted for in the downstream analysis, as will heterogeneity in eQTL strength among tissues and among alternative transcripts for the same gene. The appointee will benefit from being part of an important internationally recognized project, and will receive support from data analysis teams at both King’s College London (KCL) and University College London (UCL).

Applications are welcome from candidates with a PhD in a relevant subject area with experience of analysing scientific data.   Competency in both statistics and especially programming (HPC computing, R/python or equivalents) are essential requirements.

**Important** The KCL component of this post will last until 31 May 2015, at which point the post-holder will be invited to apply for the equivalent post at University College London for an additional 12 months.   The transfer to UCL should be more or less automatic given the project-specific relevant skills that the post-holder will have at that point.

The appointment will be made, dependent on relevant qualifications, within the Grade 6-7 scale, currently £31,644 - £46,400 per annum, plus £2,323 London Weighting Allowance.

For informal enquiries about the post please contact Dr Michael Weale at michael.weale@kcl.ac.uk
Formal application must be through the KCL online application system, available via the KCL website for this post:

Closing date: 25 Apr 2014
