SCIENCE-JOBS-DE

Ph.D. position (biophysicist, neuroscientist, physicist, or molecular biologist) (Bonn)

The center of advanced european studies and research (caesar) is dedicated to the Neuro-sciences, Cell Biology, and Biophysics. caesar is an associated Institute of the Max Planck Society, one of Europe's leading basic research organizations. About 80 Max Planck Insti-tutes conduct basic research and are involved in more than 2,000 cooperations with nearly 6,000 partners in over 100 countries.

Voltage-gated ion channels are essential for several important physiological processes, including action potential generation and propagation, neurotransmitter release, and muscle contraction. We study the molecular mechanisms that control voltage sensing and gating of these channels. Our particular interest is centered on the voltage-gated proton channel Hv1, which is expressed in large variety of immune cells, epithelial cells, and sperm. For the pro-ject on

Ph.D. position (biophysicist, neuroscientist, physicist, or molecular biologist)

Reference: PhD/MSS-7-2014

The student will use state-of-the-art techniques, ranging from electrophysiological methods like patch-clamp recordings, voltage- and patch-clamp fluorometry measurements, molecu-lar biology and biochemical assays. The project will be under the supervision of Prof. Dr. U. B. Kaupp and Dr. T. K. Berger.

You will work in a young and dynamic environment, embedded in the scientific community of the Max Planck Society and the universities of Bonn and Cologne. Caesar offers a family friendly and international atmosphere, and supports individual development with a set of trainings and seminars. Caesar provides a very modern infrastructure in an attractive
