SCIENCE-JOBS-DE

11 PhD positions - international doctorate program i-Target (München, Erlangen)

The international doctorate program “i-Target: immunotargeting of cancer” jointly organized by the Ludwig-Maximilians Universität München, the Technical University Munich and the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen Nürnberg is offering positions for

11 PhD students in the international doctorate program i-Target sponsored by the Elite Network Bavaria

Scope of the program:
Tumor immunotherapy is subject of intense scientific and clinical development. The requirements of well-trained scientists in this research field is rapidly increasing, both in industry and academy. There are currently no structured training programs in Germany to train prospective scientists specifically in the field of immunotherapies. To fill this gap, a team of ten Bavarian professors under the lead of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (speaker: Prof. Endres, scientific coordinator: Dr. Kobold) have joined forces to investigate innovative immunotherapies and to train talented PhD students in this highly competitive research field. The high scientific level of the investigators will guarantee projects at the cutting edge of research (Boztug et al. N Engl J Med. 2010; Anger et al. Nature 2013; Civril et al. Nature 2013; Gross et al. Nature 2009; Duewell et al. Nature 2010). Three fields of immunotherapy will be investigated: Targeted cell-based therapies, target!
ed antibody therapy and immunomodulatory therapy (that counteracts tumor-derived immunosuppression).

We offer:
Starting on October 1st 2014, we offer eleven positions for PhD students in the international doctorate program “i-Target” A description of the eleven research projects can be found on www.immunotarget.de. Besides the experimental work towards the PhD degree the doctorate program involves a structured training program with weekly seminars, lectures given by internationally recognized speakers, hands-on methods courses, annual research retreats as well as soft skill seminars. Scholarships of the doctorate program are awarded for one year with the possibility of extension for three further years.

We seek:
We expect applications from graduate students medicine, biology, immunology or pharmacy with an excellent academic background. Applications can come from Germany and from abroad. Applicants are required to have graduated above average at a Master level or equivalent by the time of their application. He or she should have a background in cell biology or immunology with experimental experience in protein biochemistry and/or molecular biology and the willingness to also work with mice. The applicant should be fluent in English.

How to apply:
Applications have to be submitted online at
 http://portal.graduatecenter-lmu.de/i-target/
Applicants are asked to specify for which of the eleven research projects they apply. They can add one additional project of interest as a second choice. The submission portal will be open from May 19th through June 20th 2014. Only fully completed and online submitted applications by the deadline will be considered.
