Molecular analysis of Hepatitis C Virus replication and cellular response (Giessen)

The research Team of Prof. Michael Niepmann in the Institute of Biochemistry, Faculty of Medicine, Justus-Liebig-University of Giessen, is looking for a

PhD student

as a part of the project "Molecular analysis of Hepatitis C Virus replication and cellular response", third-party funded by the DFG (German Research Association), starting from the 01.08.2014. The projetct will run for one year and is expected to be extended by another two years. In agreement with the current regulations, the position is on the TV-H E13 scale (65%) for public employees.

Your program:
The project aims at the molecular analysis of viral HCV gene expression and the mRNA expression of the infected cells by various methods including ribosome profiling (Ingolia protocol), NGS and microarray analyses. We offer excellent research facilities (Biosafety level 3) and top-class research networks, international collaborations, interdisciplinary scientific training, and a comprehensive complementary training program. The work will include handling of infectious virus and radioactive materials. Justus-Liebig-University Giessen is an excellent place for research in Life Sciences with many faculties and research collaborations in an international environment, including research networks like the DFG-Sonderforschungsbereich 1021 on RNA viruses (Marburg-Giessen) and the International Research Training Network Giessen/Marburg/Moscow in cooperation of DFG and the russian RFBR.

Your profile:
We seek highly motivated students who can address scientific problems in modern molecular virology and related fields. We are seeking students with a Master's or degree in virology, biochemistry, molecular biology or closely related disciplines.
