Functional study of candidate genes in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases/PhD-student position. (Luebeck )

A PhD position in the field of skin inflammatory disease research is available at the Luebeck Institute of Experimental Dermatology, University of Luebeck, Germany.
Interesting candidate genes associated with autoimmune diseases like Pemphigus, Psoriasis and Lupus were recently identified using quantitative trait loci analysis, genome wide association studies, NGS sequencing and other approaches. Our aim is to conduct functional analysis using in vitro assays and in vivo mouse models to investigate the role of these genes for the pathogenesis of the skin inflammation. Long term aim is to develop new diagnostic and therapeutic options.
The project involves biochemical, immunological and genetic tools as well as work with mouse models. For this purpose, we seek highly motivated and qualified candidates.
This position is a fantastic opportunity to work in an academic setting with an international team providing expertise and support in an interdisciplinary setting. Successful candidates will get the possibility to participate the Graduate College GRK1727 "Modulation of Autoimmunity" and 1743 “Genes, Environment and Inflammation”, including scientific seminars, summer schools, career development training and participation in national or international conferences.
Applicants should hold a MSc (or an equivalent degree) with a strong background in biological sciences, biochemistry, immunology or a related discipline.
Who you are:
•       self-motivated, creative and detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills, and have teamwork competency but can also work highly independently
•       preferably have laboratory experience
•       be able to handle experimental animals (previous experience is desirable but not essential)
