Postdoctoral Research Associate - Breast Cancer : Cambridge, United Kingdom

Applications are invited for two CRUK funded Postdoctoral Research Associate positions in the laboratory of Dr Walid T. Khaled at the Department of Pharmacology, University of Cambridge. We are looking for outstanding scientists to carry out research projects focusing on the cellular and molecular understanding of breast cancer heterogeneity. Dr Khaled's lab takes candidate and high throughput approaches to identify and characterise novel breast cancer genes. To achieve this, the lab uses novel genetic screening technologies, GEMM, proteomics and genomics approaches.

Applicants should have, or expect to obtain shortly, a PhD in the life sciences. Successful candidates will be expected to have demonstrable experience in one or more of the following areas: cancer biology, mammary gland biology, high throughput genetic screens, GEMM, proteomics and genomics. You must be a careful and methodical worker, paying attention to accuracy and ready to take responsibility as part of a team. You should be self-motivated and able to organise, perform and analyse experiments with minimal instruction. You will have several years of previous laboratory experience and be capable of working efficiently and productively without direct supervision.

The role holders will be based in Central Cambridge. They will report in person and through electronic data reports to the principal investigator. Careful observation and accurate computer-based record keeping and presentation are essential. The posts will require some weekend work and will involve working closely with our collaborators at other research institutes such the CRUK CI and Sanger Institute.

The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance with effect from 1st October 2014. The starting salary, depending on experience, will be in the range of £28,132 – £36,661 pa.

Informal enquiries about the projects and positions are welcome to Dr Walid Khaled (wtk22@cam.ac.uk).

The Department holds an Athena SWAN bronze award, demonstrating a commitment to provide equal opportunities and to advance the representation of women in science subjects. We welcome applications from everyone irrespective of gender but, as women are currently under-represented in our workforce, we would encourage applications from female candidates. Appointment will be based on merit alone.
